Not Again: LSU Could Lose Several Juniors To The NFL

NOSTALGIA © 1998 PhotoSpin www.powerphotos.comLSU fans must cringe whenever the NFL draft is mentioned.  Not only do the Tigers lose their share of graduating seniors each year, but they also see their ranks decimated by early-departees.  Last season, for example, LSU lost 10 underclassmen to the pro ranks and that’s not even counting dismissed/suspended junior Tyrann Mathieu.

Why bring this up now?  Because Jim Kleinpeter of The Baton Rouge Advocate points out that it could be a case of deja vu on the Bayou this January.

The Tigers could lose underclassmen:

Odell Beckham, WR

La’El Collins, LT

Ego Ferguson, DT

Jeremy Hill, RB

Kenny Hilliard, RB

Anthony Johnson, DT

Jarvis Landry, WR

Running back Alfred Blue was just granted a medical hardship year but sources at LSU tell Kleinpeter he’s going to turn pro anyway.

Les Miles can’t be happy with the idea of losing 18 underclassmen — 19 if you count Mathieu — in a two-year period.  As we’ve seen with LSU’s defense this year, it’s not easy to continually turnover players and put freshmen and sophomores onto the field before they’re ready.

Perhaps Miles should call John Calipari for advice.  If all of the juniors above leave early, LSU will be well on its way to becoming the football equivalent of Kentucky’s baskeball program — Early Exit U.
