Interim Big 12 Commish Says Missouri Isn’t A Culture Fit With SEC

Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas (photo at left) believes Missouri will stay in its current home when all’s said and done.  Of course, last week he was saying there was a chance he could talk Texas A&M into staying, so his statement should probably be taken as an “all’s well” message to the press and a “please don’t leave us” message to Mizzou officials.

According to The Kansas City Star, Neinas said yesterday that the Tigers share a culture with the Big 12:

“Every conference has a culture, as I’ve learned through the years.  One thing I can say with certainty is Missouri’s culture belongs in the Big 12, not the SEC.”

Technically, I think most long-time MU fans would tell Neinas that Missouri’s culture belonged in the old Big 8… not a Big 12 that has turned into a Texas-driven nightmare that’s run off longtime Mizzou rivals Nebraska and Colorado.

Laughably, Neinas even suggested that the SEC is nothing more than the flavor of the month:

“You know what happens is a pretty girl walks down the aisle and you say, ‘Boy, I’d like to take her to the prom.’  But there’s also one who’s tried and true and you know is going to be there.”

Uh, right.

Whether Missouri is the right fit or the SEC — and vice versa — or not, the league is more like an angel walking down the aisle and offering Mizzou an opportunity to leave the crazy witch that’s currently telling it what to do and when to do it.

So how serious are things in Columbia?  Well, the lead writer for — the Rivals site covering the Tigers — wrote yesterday that it’s time for Missouri to switch leagues.

The site has even polled some Texas-based Missouri prospects to see if a move to the SEC would hurt the Tigers’ chances of landing those players.  The MU commitments were unanimously in favor of a move to the SEC.

According to — the Rivals site that covers Texas — sources have said that Missouri has been told by the SEC that an application would be met favorably and that one big selling point for the MU is its AAU membership.

Stay tuned…
