Arkansas’ McGee Talks With UConn, Interested In Tulsa

University of Arkansas officials have confirmed that offensive coordinator Garrick McGee has indeed interviewed for the vacant head coaching job at UConn.  But that opening might not be the only cause for concern for Razorback fans.

McGee — who just finished his third year as Bobby Petrino’s quarterbacks coach and his first as O-coordinator — is a Tulsa native.  And Tulsa just lost head coach Todd Graham to Pittsburgh.  (Graham’s hire, by the way, ends speculation that Alabama linebackers coach Sal Sunseri might land the Pitt job.)

The Tulsa World has listed McGee as a potential candidate for the top job with the Golden Hurricane.  But there are several other candidates as well.  Former Graham aide Chad Morris had agreed on Monday to move from Tulsa to Clemson as the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator, but he might return to Oklahoma if offered his old boss’ job.

As for UConn, Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley is believed to be the Huskies’ first choice to replace Randy Edsall.

Stay tuned…

Arkansas’ McGee In Play For UConn Job

According to several online and television reports, Connecticut officials plan to speak with Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee about their head coaching vacancy.  McGee just finished his first season as the Hogs’ coordinator.  He has been UA’s quarterbacks coach for three seasons.

McGee was recently given the biggest raise among Bobby Petrino’s assistants… from $300,000 a year to $336,000.

McGee is in the running for Randy Edsall’s old job along with Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley and former Miami offensive coordinator Mark Whipple.

PSU’s Bradley Meets With UConn, Might Open The Door For Sunseri At Pitt

Alabama linebackers coach Sal Sunseri interviewed for the vacant (again) Pitt head coaching job last week.  But Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley is believed to be the front-runner for the job.  Now that could be changing.

Bradley met with the athletic director at UConn yesterday regarding that school’s opening.  It seems Bradley is in the enviable position of having two Big East schools competing for his services.

If Bradley lands in Storrs, it could open the door for Sunseri at Pitt.  Unless Panther AD Steve Pederson decides to chase Tulsa’s Todd Graham instead.

At this point, Sunseri appears to be a fall-back candidate at best.

Alabama’s Sunseri Interviews At Pitt

Reports yesterday had longtime Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley ticketed to Pittsburgh as the Panthers’ third coach in — oh — about three weeks.  Not so say Pitt officials.

Which means Alabama linebackers coach Sal Sunseri is still in the running.

Sunseri pursued the Pitt job when Dave Wannstedt was ousted in December.  But Panthers AD Steve Pederson — the same man who hired Bill Callahan at Nebraska — hired Mike Haywood from Miami of Ohio.  Haywood then quickly got arrested on a domestic violence beef and the job reopened.  (How long before Pederson’s job comes open?)

Sunseri interviewed for the job at his alma mater yesterday.  He was an All-American linebacker at Pitt under Jackie Sherrill in the late-70s/early-80s.

Sunseri joined Nick Saban’s staff in 2009 replacing Lance Thompson who had moved on to Tennessee.
