Tags: Son House, Today Son House
National Signing Day is in the books. A long week is nearly complete. I don’t know about you, but this Friday feels like it’s hittin’ just at the right time.
Today’s thought/lyric of the day comes from an undisputed blues legend. Consider it a bit an introduction to true, old fashioned Delta blues. Son House — that’s the artist’s name, for the uninitiated — would be one of the first men up on a Mt. Rushmore dedicated to his particular genre of music. Born in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1902, House’s songs still inspire popular artists today. (Fans of Jack White and the White Stripes, click right here.) And for the record, if there was to be some sort of Mt. Rushmore for the blues, it’d go up smack dab in Clarksdale… if only the town had a mountain.
Today’s Son House lyric comes from a song called, “Grinnin’ In Your Face.”
“You know they’ll jump you up and down. They’ll carry you all ’round and ’round. Just as soon as your back is turned, they’ll be tryin’ to crush you down.”
Plenty of signing class follow-ups coming your way today. Headlines, too.
