Georgia coach Mark Richt has chosen to give Tammy Mettenberger, one of his program’s administrative assistants, the week off. That’s because her son, Zach Mettenberger, will be leading LSU against the Bulldogs this Saturday in Athens. Richt explained:
“She loves here son, obviously, and it would be awkward for her to be hanging around all week. I told here, ‘Enjoy it, go have fun, do some things you wouldn’t normally do this time of year and enjoy it.’”
Richt dismissed Mettenberger from his team in 2010 following an arrest and, reportedly, the player’s decision to lie to the coach about the incident. After a year of junior college football, Mettenberger signed with LSU where he started last season and has been thriving this season.
“We’ve been knowing Zach since he was a very young kid,” Richt said. “We all really like Zach and want the best for him but just don’t want him to win the game this weekend. That’s the only thing that’s different from normal, is we’re competing against him this week.”
The top clash between the hedges will commence at 3:30pm ET on Saturday.
