Vanderbilt’s James Franklin was introduced to Commodore fans at halftime of Wednesday’s basketball win over Ole Miss. Like every new coach ever hired, Franklin rallied the troops with promises of progress.
“We have a plan; we have a vision for what this program could be, but we can’t do it alone,” Franklin said. We need everybody’s support. We need this community, we need this campus to come together and unite more than it ever has before.”
“Thank you so much. I can guarantee you that there are bright days ahead. We have a very specific plan. Failure is not an option. Go Dores!”
The “plan” part sounds good, but a lot of folks have had plans. Santa Ana had a very specific plan. Hirohito had a specific plan. Jefferson Davis had a very specific plan. Specific plans don’t always work.
Best of luck to Franklin, but it’s hard not to think that Vandy would have been better off hiring someone with head coaching experience to lead such an uphill climb.
