Auburn To Visit White House Next Week

The Auburn football team was set to visit the White House as BCS Champions back on April 29th… but that trip was cancelled when devastating tornadoes ripped through their home state just two days prior.

Now the Tigers have rescheduled their meeting with President Obama for next Wednesday.  Gene Chizik and the rest of the Tiger team will be honored in the Rose Garden.

Camby in the Rose Garden, presumably to root for UK

The player that put John Calipari on the map, Marcus Camby, was shown on the video screens over the court.

With Camby leading the way, Calipari guided UMass to the 1996 Final Four.

Camby now plays for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Where is everybody?

A half-hour before Kentucky tips off against Portland and you have to wonder where is everybody?

Or now we understand why Portland decided to curtain off the upper deck.

There are several completely empty sections of stands behind both end lines. With the upper deck curtained off, the Rose Garden has a capacity of 10,817.  Unless there is a late-arriving crowd, the attendance won’t reach half that.

With now 15 minutes to go before the tip, there are noticably more people in the staends, but, as they say, plenty of seats are still available.

Go Big Yellow?

UK players are shooting around informally on the court at the Rose Garden. It’s an odd sight because the UK players are wearing yellow t-shirts.

Upon closer inspection, the shirts have the “Live Strong” slogan adopted by champion cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong.

Both teams are wearing the yellow shirts. The teams visited a Portland area hospital  on Thursday.

The Live Strong program will be recognized at halftime.

UK spokesman DeWayne Peevy assured me that the Cats will be wearing the customary blue and white warmups when they begin the formal warmups 30 minutes before tipoff.

UK past and present part of Rose Garden scene

Kentucky
Content provided by Jerry Tipton on UK basketball.

As Kentucky and Portland continue warming up for the game tonight, more than few blue-clad fans have the chance to look at UK past and present.

Of course, the present Cats are stretching and working on shooting drills.

As for the past Kentucky program, that can be seen on the jumbo video screens hanging over the court. Minnesota, coached by former UK boss Tubby Smith, is leading North Carolina.

So far, there’s no audible reaction to either the past or present UK programs from the fans.
