UK Hoopster Poole May Transfer At Father’s Behest

Sophomore guard Stacey Poole Jr. might transfer from the Kentucky basketball team.   It all depends on the conversation he has with his father — former Florida player Stacey Poole — this weekend.

Does the younger Poole want to leave UK due to a lack of playing time?  Apparently not.  “He loves Big Blue,” his dad said.  “He loves it up there.  Kentucky’s been good to him.”

So who’s behind this transfer talk?  “I’m initiating everything,” Poole the Elder told The Lexington Herald-Leader.  “At the end of the day, I’ll make the call.”

Poole’s father says his son doesn’t look comfortable on the floor for UK.

“You can’t be unsure.  When I look at him on TV (the son appears to be thinking) ‘I don’t want to (mess) up.’  You can’t play the game like that. … But he’s not smiling.  He’s just all focused.”

“If it was about (playing) time,” the father said, “I’d have acted like a fool last year.  I’m for him.  I’m for the program.  But he’s my son.  I want to make sure he’s comfortable.”

Then it’s probably best not to act like a fool now.  If Poole’s college-age son wants to stay in Lexington, his father should let him make that call on his own.  There’s nothing wrong with a father looking out for his son.  But if “at the end of the day, (Papa) will make the call,” well, that’s not so great.

College would probably be a good time to let Poole Jr. grow up and make his own decisions.
