WR Grandy Out At UM… Again

In February, he left the Ole Miss football program.  In May, he returned.  But yesterday Houston Nutt announced that receiver Jesse Grandy will not be on the Rebels’ roster this fall after all:

“We had a very high standard of things he had to do to get back, and the seniors attempted to get him back with some things that had been put in place.  He didn’t follow through with all of that, and I think deep down inside he wanted to get back closer to home.”

Nutt said that the receiver — he caught 20 passes and played in all 12 games last season — will likely transfer closer to his home of Pine Bluff, Arkansas due to an illness in his family.

Grandy was expected to be Ole Miss’ top kick returner this fall.  Last season he returned 31 punts for a 7-yard average and 30 kickoffs for a 20.9-yard average.  He returned one punt for a touchdown.

UM’s Grandy To Transfer

Ole Miss receiver and kick returner Jesse Grandy plans to transfer from Ole Miss in an effort to get closer to home.  Grandy is dealing with a family member’s illness back in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

The junior-to-be caught 20 passes for the Rebels last year.  He also returned 30 kickoffs (20.9-yard average) and 15 punts (14.7-yard average) in 2010.  As a freshman in 2009 he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Houston Nutt told The Jackson Clarion-Ledger that he would like to have Grandy back, but he said his wishes were “secondary” to Grandy’s desire to go home.  “It was tough on him this past year,” Nutt said.
