Report: Liggins Will Choose LSU

Quarterback Jeremy Liggins from Lafayette (Miss.) High School is expected to announce later tonight he will play football at LSU.

Liggins told that to Rebels247 staff member Terrence Metcalf on Monday morning. Metcalf played on the offensive line at Ole Miss from 1998-2001 before spending seven seasons in the NFL.

The news comes as a surprise as Liggins told Rebels247 last week that LSU was out of the running. Liggins said at the time he would choose between Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

“I just want to stay in Mississippi and represent my state,” he said last week. “I love my state. I want to help bring a national championship to Mississippi.”

Perhaps Liggins realized his best chance to win a national championship would be at LSU. Credit should also go to coach Les Miles, who continued to recruit Liggins despite his stated intention to play in Mississippi.

Liggins would be the first quarterback to commit to LSU for the class of 2012.
