Henry Chooses Alabama

Derrick Henry surprised no one Friday afternoon when he announced his commitment to Alabama.

The running back from Yulee (Fla.) High School chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia and Tennessee.

“I love the program,” Henry said, according to ESPN RecruitingNation. “I love the coaches. I love coach (Nick) Saban and the rest of the coaches and the other players. I just feel like I have a chance to be very successful at that program on the field and off the field. They have been superior at my position and superior in the SEC over the last three or four years. It’s looking good at Alabama and I’m just ready to get down there and get to work.”

Henry’s decision to attend Alabama has been met with criticism by some because of Alabama’s depth at running back.

“When will Henry play?” some have asked.

The answer is next year if he’s good enough. It’s true Henry will face plenty of competition. If Eddie Lacy returns for his senior year next season, Henry will battle Lacy and underclassmen Dee Hart and T.J. Yeldon for snaps.

But Saban has proven the best players will play. And most five-star prospects believe they’re good enough to earn playing time no matter what kind of competition they face.

Henry is the third running back to commit to Alabama’s class of 2013, joining Tyren Jones from Marietta, Ga., and Altee Tenpenny from North Little Rock, Ark.

LSU Pursuing Tide Commit Jones

Tyren Jones’ commitment to Alabama hasn’t affected LSU’s interest in the running back from Walton High School in Marietta, Ga.

The Tigers appear to still be in heavy pursuit of Jones despite his pledge to Alabama.

Despite that “solid” pledge, Jones’ recruitment could still be worth monitoring. The Crimson Tide already has a commitment from running back Altee Tenpenny from North Little Rock, Ark. Another running back choosing Alabama could influence Jones to look elsewhere, including LSU.

Other schools to offer Jones include Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson and North Carolina.
