A week ago today, Mississippi State announced that linebacker Chris Hughes had been suspended indefinitely from the team. Last night, the school announced he’s no longer part of the program.
Details of his latest arrest emerged late yesterday afternoon. AL.com reported that the 21-year old Hughes allegedly struck his girlfriend multiple times in the face last month. The Dispatch reports that Hughes was arrested in September, 2011 after allegedly hitting a 17-year-old family member in the eye and according to the district attorney, struck a 36-year-old family member repeatedly in May of 2010 during an argument about a car. He served five days in jail following the second incident. The Dispatch also reports that Hughes was arrested and charged with third degree assault for two separate incidents in 2010.
Hughes had 31 tackles for the Bulldogs last season. He’s currently in jail in Mobile County, Alabama and awaiting a court date on July 10th.
