SEC Headlines – 1/4/12 Part One

1.  Erving Walker nailed seven 3-pointers to lead Florida past UAB 79-61 last night in Gainesville.

2.  Georgia has a number of issues to fix before the 2012 football season comes ’round.

3.  After trailing at halftime, Kentucky rolled past Arkansas-Little Rock 73-51 last night.  Now they must stop expecting thing to come easy for them.

4.  South Carolina thumped SC State 79-51 last night and enter SEC play having won six of their last seven games.

5.  After falling to Memphis 99-97 in double-overtime in Maui on November 22nd, Tennessee will travel to the Bluff City for a rematch tonight.

6.  Vanderbilt has dismissed center Logan Stewart and running back Mitchell Hester from the football program for breaking team rules.

SEC Headlines – 11/10/11 Part One

1.  Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis is happy with freshman quarterback Jacoby Brisett’s composure.

2.  Chemistry isn’t a concern for the guards on Billy Donovan’s basketball team.

3.  Georgia players say they’re past last year’s chippy, often dirty Auburn game — “a game that nearly got out of hand.”

4.  The Dawgs expect to have deep threat Malcolm Mitchell back on the field this weekend.

5.  Freshman quarterback Maxwell Smith is learning the expectations associated with being Kentucky’s starting quarterback.

6.  UK has two starting defensive tackles back from injury and as a result Joker Phillips says “you can’t attack us up the middle.”

7.  Everything still looks good for Gamecock quarterback Connor Shaw and his chances of playing on Saturday.

8.  Carolina’s basketball team has a lot of holes to fill.

9.  Demoted Tennessee O-lineman James Stone is working to get a starting job back.

10.  Vol players say their new Wildcat formation makes them feel “like we’re playing a video game.”

11.  James Franklin believes center Logan Stewart has earned himself a reputation for being a hot-head and now opposing teams “are trying to get him to react.”

12.  Lance Goulbourne doesn’t get a lot of pub, but it’s hard to ignore the forward’s abilities.

SEC Headlines – 10/20/11 Part One

Some quickie headlines from around the league today…

1.  Florida’s football game with Furman on November 19th will air on pay-per-view.

2.  The Gators have landed a Top 10 ranking in the USA Today/ESPN Basketball Coaches’ Poll.

3.  Georgia will be without two defensive players for the first half of their game with Florida… but two other starters will return to the lineup.

4.  And now there are claims that another Georgia player was clipped flagrantly by a Vanderbilt player.  Asked about it, Mark Richt said reporters could check the tape for themselves.  Let.  It.  Go.

5.  Kentucky will have to deal with ex-Georgia tailback Washaun Ealey when they host Jacksonville State on Saturday.

6.  UK is ranked #2 in the nation behind North Carolina in the preseason Coaches’ Poll.

7.  Steve Spurrier wants his team to improve its third-down defense.

8.  Carolina hoopster Damontre Harris returned to practice sooner than expected after injuring a big toe.  (Betcha his toe injury wasn’t this interesting.)

9.  Tennessee’s receivers are working to cut down on dropped balls.

10.   UT’s season-ticket sales for basketball are down about 10% from last year (under Bruce Pearl).

11.  James Franklin has decided that Jordan Rodgers will take over for Larry Smith at quarterback.

12.  Franklin doesn’t believe suspended center Logan Stewart meant to play dirty when he clipped Georgia’s Kwame Geathers.  Let.  It.  Go.

Kennard Reeves interviews Logan Stewart

Vanderbilt senior running back Kennard Reeves talked with freshman center Logan Stewart after Wednesday’s practice. A native of Boiling Springs, S.C., Stewart made the first start of his career last Saturday against South Carolina.
