Lineman Whitehead Chooses N.C. State

Defensive lineman Kenderius Whitehead from ML King High School in Atlanta has committed to North Carolina State.

Whitehead chose the Wolfpack over Georgia and Clemson.

“I was looking for the best school for me, as far as playing time and my education,” Whitehead told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I want to do computer science and N.C. State is a great school for that degree.”

Michael Carvell of the AJC described Whitehead’s decision as a “shocker for Georgia,” which had sent recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner to ML King on Wednesday.

Georgia received a commitment from highly-touted defensive end Jordan Jenkins last week. Whitehead insisted Jenkins had no effect on his decision.

“No, not at all,” Whitehead said.

Jordan Jenkins Chooses Georgia

Defensive end Jordan Jenkins from Harris County High School in Hamilton, Ga., has committed to Georgia.

He made the announcement live on “The Next Class 2012″ on Fox Sports South.

“It was Georgia and Alabama,” said Jenkins, who’s considered the fifth-best defensive end prospect in the nation by “They were neck-and-neck my senior year. I made the decision last week.”

Alabama was once considered the favorite to land Jenkins. So what happened for him to change his mind? It started with his family’s opinion.

“They didn’t exactly feel safe with me going to Alabama,” Jenkins said. “I love Alabama to death. I never would have thought I was going to Georgia.”

Jenkins said he changed his mind and decided last week Georgia would be his pick.

“It’s a better fit for me and my family together,” he said. “I don’t want to go some place my mom is worried about me all the time. Something about Georgia just drew me out. I’d just love the chance to play for Georgia on the upswing. That’s one of the things that I’m really excited about.”

Jordan Jenkins Set To Announce

Jordan Jenkins will announce his college decision on Monday night.

The defensive end from Harris County High School in Hamilton, Ga., is considering Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia. His announcement will air live on “The Next Class” on Fox Sports South at 7 p.m. eastern time.

Some have wondered if the timing of the announcement – 90 minutes before the start of the BCS Championship Game – is an indication that Jenkins will choose Alabama. Not so, according to Jenkins’ father.

“Yes, everybody thinks that,” Ronald Jenkins told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’ve heard those rumors, too. Actually, we were supposed to do it Tuesday. Then the network wanted to change it to Monday, not us.”

That’s led to different opinions on which school will land Jordan Jenkins, who’s ranked the No. 5 defensive end in the country by

“We’ll see what happens,” Ronald Jenkins said. “I’m his father and I’m telling 100 percent that I don’t know where he’s going right now. I know where he said he’s leaning … I’ve got a funny feeling that it’s going to be interesting.”
