The ACC plans to go to an 18-game basketball schedule next season and according to The Gainesville Sun that’s likely to prevent Miami from scheduling Florida in basketball anytime soon.
“Certainly, you need to look at what is best for our team in terms of your schedule,” Hurricane coach Jim Larranaga said. “You’ve got to balance home and away and strength of opponents.”
In other words, The U will already be playing 18 games against ACC foes… so why toughen up the schedule further by adding an SEC power?
When the SEC expands to add Missouri and Texas A&M next season, we expect the league to follow the ACC’s lead and move to an 18-game schedule. There was momentum for such a move earlier this year when the league decided to scrap its two-division format.
