The Southeastern Conference went three for three in basketball action last night. Below’s a quickie wrap-up:
Georgia 72, South Dakota State 61
Mark Fox’s team didn’t have as easy a night as many would have hoped — especially at home — but the Bulldogs manged to overcome a seven-point second-half deficit to win going away in Athens.
UGA featured a balanced scoring attack versus the Jackrabbits: Donte’ Williams scored 17, Gerald Robinson scored 15, and freshmen Nemanja Djurisic and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 14 apiece.
Tennessee 85, Louisiana-Monroe 62
Another game, another blowout win for first-year coach Cuonzo Martin. But this one wasn’t as easy as it appeared. The Warhawks actually battled to a 33-33 tie at halftime.
Trae Golden’s 17 and the Vols’ continued love of the three-point shot (26 of 53 through two games) helped UT pull away. The going gets considerably tougher for Tennessee next Monday when they face Duke in Maui.
Arkansas 91, Oakland 68
Marshawn Powell’s 20 points led the Razorbacks to their second win of the Mike Anderson era in Fayetteville last night. The Hogs built a 55-27 halftime lead and then coasted home for the victory.
Anderson’s pressure defense has forced 18 turnovers in each of Arkansas’ first two contests.
