Report: Vols Freshman Bonner Suspect In Campus Theft

Tennessee freshman cornerback Deion Bonner is a suspect in the theft of a stolen phone on UT’s campus.

From Rivals site Volquest.com:

“Bonner, the Vols’ freshman defensive back from Columbus, Ga., has not yet been charged but is listed as the suspect for a stolen cell phone from UT’s Health Physical Education and Rec building (HYPER) that stems from an alleged incident mid-day on Halloween. The missing cell phone was reported to UTPD shortly before 5 p.m. The report lists it as theft or attempted theft of an item valued under $500.”

UT officials have yet to comment, according to Volquest’s report.

Bonner has a history involving theft. He was arrested along with two Carver High School teammates in April 2011 andĀ charged with stealing iPods and iPhones from the University of Georgia football locker room.

Tennessee coach Derek Dooley addressed his decision to sign Bonner on Feb. 1, saying he believed Bonner had learned from his past mistakes.

“Deion, we did a lot of diligence on the situation,” Dooley said at the time. “Deion was incredibly truthful. He was incredibly remorseful. And I don’t know of a high school player who had to pay the piper more for what they did than what he had to go through.”

Bonner would be the second Tennessee player in the past six months to be involved in a campus theft. Tight end Cameron Clear was dismissed from the team in May following an arrest for stealing a laptop.
