Alabama Adds To Already Loaded Class

Alabama coach Nick Saban continues to add elite talent to the Crimson Tide’s class of 2012.

Alabama received commitments from safety Landon Collins and athlete Cyrus Jones during Thursday night’s Under Armour All-American Game. That gives Alabama 26 commitments for the 2012 class.

Jones was the first of the two to commit to Alabama. The Baltimore, Md., prospect projects to play receiver for the Crimson Tide while returning kicks and punts.

“I think I can make a real impact there,” Jones said.

Collins plans to do the same in Alabama’s secondary. Many believed the Geismar, La., native would decide to stay close to home and play for LSU. But Collins believes Alabama is home.

“That’s been the thing for me, and what I have always said,” Collins told ESPN. “I felt so much at home at Alabama. I have so much trust in those coaches and I get along so well with the players. That is why I ultimately picked Alabama.”

Collins’ mother wanted him to pick LSU and she said so live on ESPN, which you can see below.

“I feel LSU is a better place for him to be,” she said. “LSU Tigers – No. 1. Go Tigers.”

National Signing Day is Feb. 1 and Collins can expect to hear plenty of attempts from LSU fans to sway him from heading north to play Alabama. For now, Collins is a part of an Alabama class that’s ranked No. 1 in the nation by Rivals.com and 247Sports.com.
