If Matt Elam signs with Florida, it probably won’t be thanks to the recruitment of wide receivers coach Joker Phillips.
Elam, a defensive tackle from John Hardin High School in Elizabethton, Ky., gave that hint on Sunday with a pair of tweets.
Elam told AL.com his top four schools are Alabama, Kentucky, Louisville and Ohio State. He had previously listed a top five list, which included Florida.
It should be noted the Gators haven’t offered a scholarship to Elam, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 24 defensive tackle by Rivals.com. The top four schools Elam is considering have all extended an offer.
Florida has received a commitment from one 2014 defensive tackle: Anthony Moten from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Gators have already offered more than 10 other defensive tackles in the 2014 class, which could lead Florida to be “done” with Elam following his public display of feelings toward Phillips.
Perhaps we should have taken a hint on Elam’s opinion of Phillips when they posed for a photo together on April 1.
