Another SEC big man has decided to delay the NBA and return to school for the 2013-14 season. Earlier this week, Florida’s Patric Young said he’s return to Gainesville. Yesterday afternoon, LSU’s Johnny O’Bryant announced he would return to Baton Rouge:
“After meeting with my family and Coach (Johnny) Jones, I’ve decided to return to LSU for my junior year. Watching that game last night (between Louisville and Michigan), it really gave me chills. I’m really excited about next year. We have a great recruiting class coming in. I want to win for those guys. Watching Louisville, we’re going to be built like that, where you can go anywhere and get a basket.”
Like Young, O’Bryant’s draft stock wasn’t high. Still, his coach gets points for putting player first. “When he told me (before the Final Four), I was able to jump across the desk and give him a big bear hug,” Jones said. “But we had an opportunity to wait and think through the weekend to see if he was sure exactly. We want our guys to do what’s best for them. We want to give them all the information so they can make a proper decision.”
LSU’s signing class is ranked #6 in the nation according to Rivals.com. Jones coaxed his first team to a surprising 9-9 conference record and a 19-12 mark overall. Now with O’Bryant — a first-team All-SEC pick — returning, expectations are going to become pretty big on the Bayou.
