SEC Headlines – 1/20/12 Part One

1.  Alabama trailed by as many as 23 points in a brutal homecourt loss to Vanderbilt that looked closer — 69-59 — than it was.

2.  Eight early enrollees are on campus in Tuscaloosa.

3.  More good news for Auburn: receiver Emory Blake is returning for his senior season.

4.  Arkansas is a perfect 13-0 at Bud Walton Arena.  Unfortunately, they’re 0-5 away from home base.

5.  Sophomore safety Darrell Smith has received the go-ahead to transfer from UA to Jacksonville State.

6.  LSU freshman Johnny O’Bryant might be back from a broken bone in his hand quicker than first thought.

7.  The Tiger football team had a top tailback enroll early this week.

8.  Freshman Jarvis Summers is making an impact at Ole Miss.

9.  Juco transfer and the left tackle of the future Pierce Burton has arrived in Oxford.

10.  If MSU is get over the hump — and we don’t mean the Humphrey Coliseum — the Bulldogs need to star winning on the road.

SEC Headlines – 10/31/11

1.  The SEC has released it’s Players of the Week list.

2.  Florida is focusing on an improved Vanderbilt squad.

3.  Whoda thunk the Gators would be battling for bowl eligibility?

4.  Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo says “A lot of people don’t believe in this football, question who we’re playing,” in terms of a weak SEC East.

5.  UGA linebacker Jarvis Jones says he won’t consider an early exit to the NFL.

6.  Joker Phillips says Kentucky will have a full-fledged quarterback competition this week in practice.

7.  The Cats are now focused on winning three of their last four to reach a bowl game.

8.  For the first time this season, South Carolina will be underdogs as they head to Arkansas.

9.  This writer gives Carolina’s offense a “B” following a 14-point effort at Tennessee.

10.  Freshman Justin Worley was just 10 of 26 passing against South Carolina and was benched in the game’s fourth quarter… but Derek Dooley’s going to start him again against MTSU.

11.  Vol safety Brent Brewer is now done for the year with a torn ACL.

12.  For Vanderbilt, Saturday was yet another almost upset.

13.  Auburn’s offense found its lost spark last weekend.  (Amazing how Ole Miss’ defense can do that for a team.)

14.  Emory Blake’s return at receiver played no small part in the offense’s improvement.

15.  It was another slow start for Arkansas in Nashville on Saturday.

16.  LSU-Alabama is getting more pub, but South Carolina’s visit to Fayetteville will also be a matchup of Top 10 teams.

17.  Mississippi State picked up a needed win in Lexington, but there are still questions left to answer.

18.  Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is the first player in MSU history to earn SEC honors (“Defensive Lineman of the Week”) in three consecutive weeks.

19.  Ole Miss will be looking to snap an 11-game SEC losing streak when it battles Kentucky on Saturday.

20.  Mississippi is #116 in the nation in run defense and three straight opposing running backs have been named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week after facing the Rebels.
