Arkansas Lands In-State LB Commit

Arkansas picked up a commitment from in-state linebacker AJ Turner over the weekend.Ā  Turner is the third in-state, class of 2012 player to commit to Arkansas.

Turner led the state of Arkansas with 177 tackles as a junior from East Poinsett County last year.

Ky Madden’s Long and Winding Road

As Abraham Lincoln once said, “Following college recruiting is a surefire way to drive yourself crazy.” Case in point: All-everything point guard Rashad “Ky” Madden of East Poinsett County, who in September made a non-binding verbal commitment to be part of John Pelphrey’s potentially program-changing (and job-saving) 2011 recruiting class.

With the time to make his decision binding at hand (the early signing period begins tomorrow), Madden announced earlier today that, while still committed to the Hogs, he would wait until April to sign. Per Richard Davenport, he said he had concerns about the number of guards on the Razorback roster. Sigh.

But wait … later on this afternoon, Madden changed his mind and announced that he will indeed ink a letter of intent with Arkansas during the early-signing period, on Friday. According to Chris Bahn, “what caused [Madden] to change his mind after the initial flip-flop is unclear.”

None of this should be all that surprising. After all, we are talking about an 18-year-old kid (or whatever age he is – I’m assuming it’s something close to that), not exactly a demographic known for its steady decision-making. Secondly, for a long while, Madden was thought by many to be heading to Ole Miss, and he reportedly changed his mind about going to Oxford only minutes before announcing his verbal commitment. That didn’t exactly inspire a world of confidence in me.

We’ll just have to wait and see how this unfolds, but I hear that John Pelphrey is busy replenishing his Unisom supply.
