Missouri QB Mauk Arrested

Missouri freshman quarterback Maty Mauk was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of four charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.

Missouri police say Mauk was spotted at 12:17 a.m. central time making contact with two vehicles while driving his scooter. Two females were passengers on the scooter, according to police.

Mauk drove away when police attempted to pull him over, according to the report. The scooter was later found abandoned between two cars in a parking lot.

Mauk was contacted by police at 11:18 and turned himself into Missouri police headquarters. He faces four charges: leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, resisting arrest by fleeing a vehicle, operating a vehicle in a reckless manner and failure to observe a traffic control device.

Mauk was released after he posted $1,000 bond. He’s the second Missouri quarterback arrested for leaving the scene of an accident in recent months. Backup quarterback Corbin Berkstresser was arrested in May when he fled the scene after hitting a parked car with his truck. Berkstresser pleaded guilty and rejoined the team in June after serving a suspension.

Mauk’s arrest is unlikely to affect his status with the team this season. He’s expected to redshirt as Berkstresser is the top backup to James Franklin, who returns as the team’s starting quarterback.

Team spokesman Chad Moller told the Daily Tribune that Missouri is aware of Mauk’s arrest and the situation will be address internally with no further comment.

Mauk was ranked the nation’s No. 16 quarterback in the 2012 class by ESPNU and was No. 4 on MrSEC’s list of the top five freshman quarterbacks in the SEC.
