Auburn mega-booster Bobby Lowder phoned the governor of Alabama yesterday and asked that he not be considered for another term on AU’s board of trustees.
Lowder has been one of the most high-profile — and controversial — college boosters in the country. Last week a lawsuit was filed in an attempt to keep him off of the board.
Lowder has drawn increased scrutiny since his Colonial Bank failed in 2009.
While Lowder won’t serve as a boardmember, there’s little reason to believe that he still won’t be able to exert a great deal of influence on Tiger athletics from the, er, cheap seats.
UPDATE — Kevin Scarbinsky of The Birmingham News writes that Auburn athletics are good today because of Lowder.
