Alabama Receives 14th Commitment For 2012 Class

Alabama has received a commitment from defensive lineman Darren Lake from Sumter County High School in York, Ala.

Lake, who is Alabama’s 14th commitment for the 2012 class, received a scholarship offer from Alabama earlier this month. He gave his pledge to the Crimson Tide after competing in a camp in Tuscaloosa during the weekend.

“I talked with Coach Nick Saban and he said he was happy to have me and he wanted me to work on my grades,” Lake told 247Sports.com. “It feels great to commit to Alabama. I chose Alabama because it’s close to home and is a good program. I think I did great today. There were a lot of other really good players there, but I thought I did pretty good.”

Lake chose Alabama over an offer from rival Tennessee. Auburn, Mississippi State and Alabama-Birmingham had also shown interest.

Alabama Offers Quarterback Gardner

Alabama has offered a scholarship to quarterback Will Gardner from Coffee County High School in Douglas, Ga.

Alabama is the third school to offer Gardner, who also has received official invitations from Mississippi State and Louisville.

“Louisville was the first to offer me and they say I am the top guy on their board,” Gardner told ESPN Insider via text. “I really wasn’t expecting it when it came. It was a surprise. Alabama and Mississippi State were the same way. I haven’t been offered by Florida but they seem serious.”

Gardner plans to visit Alabama for a camp on June 5. The Crimson Tide could receive his commitment during the visit.

“They are my favorite and right now I am kind of shooting for Alabama,” he said. “I had a video chat with Coach (Nick Saban) and it’s my dream to play in the SEC.”
