QB Wallace Expected To Get More Snaps At AU

Last season, Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn only allowed quarterback Kiehl Frazier to throw 12 passes on the season.  By contract, he had Frazier run the ball 76 times.

Now we know why.  This season, the sophomore’s passing numbers have been ugly: 47-of-89 for a completion percentage under 53%.  He’s thrown seven interceptions to just two touchdowns.  And his yards-per-attempt average is an anemic 6.1.

That leaves Frazier ranked as the 119th best quarterback in the nation out of 123 who are eligible.

It’s no wonder then that Gene Chizik plans to create a Wildcat package for freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace.  According to the coach, “it could range from zero plays to 20 plays” per game.

“It think that with (Wallace) having such a comfort level of doing a lot of (Wildcat) in high school, he’s a guy that he can throw it.  The difference is that you’re able to really take a guy and work on that small portion of the game, to try to really master that and the comfort level that he’s got going.”

On the year, Wallace has three rushing attempts and has thrown zero passes.  But teammate Chad Slade has been impressed.  The offensive lineman says when Wallace first arrived on campus, “he was always in the film room, always with Coach Loeffler, always getting better.”

For now, Frazier is the #1 quarterback with Wallace as the designated Wildcat man.  Chizik says Clint Moseley is still the team’s #2 quarterback, but he hasn’t played to date due to a sore shoulder.
