Florida’s new head coach Will Muschamp got his recruiting in Gainesville off to a great start.
Quarterback Jeff Driskel, who plans to enroll in college next month, told Muschamp he will stick with his commitment to Florida.
“He’s fully committed,” Mary Driskel, Jeff’s mother, told the Palm Beach Post. “He got his classes set up. He’s on his way.”
That’s good news for Florida. Driskel is ranked the nation’s top quarterback by Rivals.com. He also plays a position that was a concern for Florida during this year’s 7-5 season.
Defensive end Clay Burton will be sticking with his commitment to Florida as well. The younger brother of Florida quarterback Trey Burton will begin classes in Gainesville next month.
Clay Burton took an official visit to Florida this weekend and spoke to Muschamp during his trip.
“He’s got a great reputation and SEC bloodlines,” Burton said of Muschamp.
Muschamp’s move to Florida will have an impact in recruiting on two of the nation’s top programs, Florida and Texas, writes David Wasson of FanHouse.com. Prospects looking at Florida have more answers while Texas targets have plenty of questions to ask.
Tom Luginbill of ESPN.com believes Muschamp will do fine in recruiting at Florida. Says Luginbill:
“The fact that Florida hired a high-profile name (even though he’s not a head coach) and did it so quickly will only help the program. It should stop any potential bleeding in this current class and help the Gators as national signing day nears.”
