Joe Duffy….Rival Blogger? Stallings Interview

So Joe Duffy will be blogging for the NY Times college sports blog “The Quad” this season. Here is his first entry(http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/15/new-nickname-for-a-new-season/#preview)

Also here is a very interesting interview the Nashville Scene did with CKS. The most interesting parts is 1) he has NEVER had a beer, CKS you don’t know what your missing and 2) he won’t be coaching into his 60′s.

CKS and the rest of the Commie B-Ball squad take on Nebraska at 1:30 est on ESPNU. I have to say it was quite weird to wake up this morning and put ESPN on and see LIVE college basketball from the east coast. Weird but cool.

Trying to Stay Positive……So Lets Just Focus on Basketball

First I hope everyone saw that Dai-Jon Parker committed to play for the Black and Gold on Friday night. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20101106/SPORTS0602/11060322/2167/SPORTS0602/Georgia+prep+guard+commits+to+Vanderbilt

This is a big pick up for CKS and his staff because we now have two 4-star guards coming into the program next year to go along with a 3-star power forward. This has the best the best “guard” recruiting class CKS has had, at least since I have been following the Commies.

Also the current team takes on Southern Indiana tonight at 7pm in Memorial to conclude their exhibition schedule. Just want to see everyone come out of this game healthy and get some minutes for the Frosh (especially Fuller, who I think we are gonna depend on the most out of this class because of the lack of depth at PG).

The team will then open up the season for-reals on Friday night against Presbyterian. I’m just gonna ignore that we have a football program for the next few weeks. Sorry.

Is Anyone Else Really Pumped For Some B-Ball??????

Predictions for tonight? Sure…..

1) Score – 86 – 59 for the Commies.
2) Leading Scorer – Jenkins – 13 (I’m hoping CKS gets everyone some minutes especially the freshman and Jordan Smart as we need to see what those guys can do).
3) Most minutes: PG (Kyler Fuller?), Center (Festus), Shooting guard/PG (Tinsley), Forward (Lance)

Here’s an article from Fox Sports Writer Jeff Goodman (http://www.yardbarker.com/blog/jeffgoodman/vandys_stallings_upbeat_despite_losing_top_two_scorers/3531036)
Glad to hear CKS is confident in Brad at the point. I’m still a little hesitant.

And here is a short primer for tonight’s game and a mini-preview of the team from VUCommodores.com (http://vucommodores.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/110210aab.html)

If anyone in the Nashville area is going to the game let us know in the comments section and definitely check back after the game with some insight. Thanks!

Finally……..ITS BASKETBALL SEASON!!!!!

Well it has been a depressing fall for the Vandy faithful…..BUT I think things are about to get a lot better because Commie basketball is right around the corner.

First the team takes on Alabama-Huntsville in the first of two exhibition games tomorrow night (the other is on November 8 against Southern Indiana). The team opens for real against Presbyterian on the 13th.

Also this Friday, Georgia shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker is set to announce his verbal commitment. Parker is down to 5 teams (Vandy, UGA, Rhode Island, Oregon State and Oklahoma State) but most people expect him to choose between Vandy and UGA. Parker is a 4-star recruit who can really shoot from the outside (prob not to Jenkins level but who can?) Parker would be a real big pickup for CKS and turn the 2011 recruit class from solid to excellent.

Here is a Q&A with one of the newest Commies, Rod Odom(http://vucommodores.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/103010aab.html). I’m excited 1) because he is supposed to be real good and 2) because he hails from Long Island like myself. Vanderbilt can always use a couple more kids from the best part of New York state.

Comments are what you are looking forward to for this year? What you think is the most important thing to have a successful team? What is our strength? what are our weaknesses? How big a jump will Jenkins make? Any and all speculation for 2010-11 Vanderbilt basketball team welcome.
