A&M RB Michael Tweets Play-Calling Tips While He Sits Out A One-Game Suspension

Coaches are used to hearing play-calling “advice” from fans in the stands and on talk radio.  And on messageboards, at church, while pumping gas, etc, etc, etc.

They probably hear quite a bit from their own players behind closed doors, too.

But in what might be a first, Texas A&M tailback Christine Michael took to Twitter to give his Aggie coaches some play-calling tips during last week’s 48-3 rout over SMU.  On the positive side, Michael was serving a one-game suspension for a “violation of team rules” and was not posting his comments from the sideline… or the Aggies the huddle:

Kevin Sumlin says he’s already addressed the issue with his starting running back.

A&M RB Williams Will Have To Redshirt, But Starter Michael Supremely Confident

Texas A&M and running back Brandon Williams got the news they expected yesterday when the NCAA officially denied the former Oklahoma Sooner a hardship waiver.  Instead of playing immediately for the Aggies, the sophomore will redshirt.

Williams played as a true freshman at OU last year, so he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining when he returns.  His request for a waiver was initially turned down on August 2nd, but A&M appealed.  Now that appeal has been shot down, too.  But with Christine Michael back as the starter and five-star freshman Trey Williams in the running back corps, the denied waiver shouldn’t hurt too much.  Unless the Aggies have a ton of bad luck with injuries.

Kevin Sumlin said via statement: “We appreciate the NCAA’s consideration of our appeal in the case of Brandon Williams.  We knew this was a possibility and Brandon will continue to work out with our team and help our team get better.  We look forward to him playing in maroon and white in 2013.”

As for Michael, the Aggies’ starter, he’s not lacking confidence as his team enters SEC play.  “All I know is I’m going to go out there and play with passion and aggression and play as if I’m the best running back,” he told The Houston Chronicle.  “Not just in this league, but going into the NFL.”

(A sidenote to A&M fans… we’re currently working on an overall redesign of the site and for some reason the Aggie team page just doesn’t want to accept stories at the moment.  Yes, any A&M-related material will appear on the homepage, but please bear with us as we try to exorcise the ghosts from our Aggie-page machine.)
