Defensive Tackle Russell Headed To Auburn

Defensive tackle Dontavius Russell from Carrollton (Ga.) High School has committed to Auburn.

Russell wrote on Twitter: “If you really know me you would know that I will continue playing football at the University of……………………AUBURN!!!! #WDE”

Russell, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 13 defensive tackle by Rivals, decommitted from Georgia on Dec. 1.

Auburn has enjoyed a successful run on the recruiting trail in recent weeks. Defensive backs Kalvaraz Bessent and Stephen Roberts switched their commitments from Alabama to Auburn. Junior college defensive lineman DaVonte Lambert signed with Auburn last week after he originally committed to Tennessee.

Auburn has 21 commitments for the class of 2014.

Georgia’s ‘Fastest Prospect’ Scheduling Visits

Jonathan Jones doesn’t know which school he will attend yet, but the cornerback from Carrollton (Ga.) High School is quickly scheduling his visits for the summer.

Jones received an offer from Auburn when he visited the Tigers earlier this month. He followed up that trip with a visit to Georgia Tech, which has already offered a scholarship to Jones.

Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he plans to visit Tennessee on July 18 and Florida State on July 19.

“I don’t really have any leaders right now,” Jones told the AJC. “But once I visit Tennessee and Florida State, and see if they offer me or not, then I will have a better idea about everything. As far as my current offers, I’m really liking Auburn, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech.”

Jones’ speed is why he’s such a coveted prospect. The Junior Olympics candidate won the 110-meter hurdles (14.02 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (37.39) to help win the Class AAA all-points trophy.

Jones could run track anywhere in the country but appears focused on playing football.

“It’s just what I grew up doing,” Jones told the AJC. “I started playing football at the age of four. It’s something I just love to do. With track, people saw that I was fast and said, ‘go run track.’ But football is in my heart.”
