SEC Commitment Roundup 1/2/13

Maquedius Bain made LSU’s tough week better when he committed to the Tigers on Wednesday.

The defensive tackle from University School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., chose LSU over Louisville, Miami, Marshall and Oklahoma.

“I had a fantastic trip (to LSU) and when I was there I saw everything that LSU had to offer academically and in football,” Bain told ESPN RecruitingNation. “The coaches are great guys but they make you work hard so it’s a lot like the coaches at U-School.”

Bain is LSU’s 24th commitment for the class of 2013.

Branisel chooses Tennessee

Tight end A.J. Branisel from Notre Dame Cathedral Latin School in South Euclid, Ohio, has committed to Tennessee.

Branisel had been committed to Cincinnati before Butch Jones left the Bearcats last month to become Tennessee’s coach. The presence of Jones along with several of his assistants from Cincinnati helped the Vols land Branisel.

“That was one of the main things,” Branisel told Volquest.com. “It’s a huge thing to already have a relationship built with a coach at a brand new school that you are newly looking at because they were just at another school you were getting recruited by.”

Folston commits to Notre Dame

Running back Tarean Folston from Cocoa (Fla.) committed to Notre Dame on Wednesday.

Folston, who had been recruited by several SEC schools, chose Notre Dame over Florida State and Oregon. He’s the second running back from Florida to commit to Notre Dame’s 2013 class, joining Greg Bryant from Delray Beach.

Brantley decommits from Florida

Defensive tackle Caleb Brantley from Crescent City (Fla.) High School has decommitted from Florida.

Brantley had been committed to the Gators since January. Brantley’s decommitment leaves the Gators with only one defensive tackle committed for 2013: junior college signee Darius Cummings.

Brantley told ESPN he’s unsure which schools he will visit.

LaRue opens recruitment

Athlete Sebastian LaRue from Santa Monica, Calif., announced Wednesday he is no longer committed to Southern California.

LaRue, who projects to play wide receiver in college, had already taken an official visit to Washington State and is expected to visit Texas A&M and Notre Dame, according to Rivals.

“I just need some time to think about it, rethink things,” LaRue told the website. “We’ll see how this all plays out.”
