Defensive back Izauea Lanier has committed to Tennessee.
Lanier, who attends East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Miss., had also been considering Ole Miss. UT defensive backs coach Terry Joseph was influential in helping Lanier choosing the Vols.
“Cach Joseph has been great,” Lanier told Volquest.com. “He has stuck with me through everything. When I didn’t get things done to get out in December, coach Joseph never backed off. He kept telling me how much he wanted me and needed me.”
Lanier is UT’s 21st commitment for the class of 2011. Six of those players have enrolled for the spring semester. It will be interesting to see if Lanier’s commitment affects the decision of junior college defensive back Byron Moore, who’s expected to choose between UT and Miami.
Lanier originally signed with Auburn in 2009 but failed to qualify. He was considered the nation’s 54th best athlete that year by Rivals.com.
