In-State Defensive Back Commits To Florida

Defensive back Brian Poole from Southeast High School in Bradenton, Fla., committed to Florida on Monday.

Poole, who is ranked the No. 8 cornerback and 75th-best prospect in the nation by Rivals, has been recovering from surgery to repair a broken ankle. Poole said Florida’s persistence despite his injury helped him feel comfortable with the Gators staff.

That definitely had something to do with it,” Poole said. “They checked on me a lot.”

Poole chose Florida over scholarship offers from such schools as Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida State and Miami. He said he hopes to help Florida recruit others to Gainesville.

“I’m really, really excited about (recruiting other players to Florida),” Poole said. “A lot of guys have been calling me to recruit me, so that helped me out with my decision.”

Florida has 11 commitments for the class of 2012. Eight of those commitments are 4- or 5-star prospects.
