SEC Headlines 9/23/2012

1. Arkansas wastes record-setting night by wide receiver Cobi Hamilton in loss to Rutgers.  ”This team is such disarray it managed to squander the greatest receiving performance in the history of Arkansas and the SEC.”

2. Auburn student assistant died before last night’s game against LSU.  No details provided in the death of 23-year old Joe Bagwell.

3. Jeff Duncan on LSU: “They remained unbeaten. But they are no longer unchallenged. And more important, whatever air of invincibility they possessed is now gone.

4. Ole Miss will be the last SEC team to open its conference play next week.  It will do so at Alabama – where it has lost 10 straight at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

5. Mississippi State  quarterback Tyler Russell tied the school record tied the school record for pass attempts without an interception – then threw a pick on his very next pass.

6. Is there a quarterback controversy at Mizzou? Gary Pinkel:  “James Franklin’s our starter.”

7. Georgia’s freshmen running back duo continues to impress – they combine to go over 200 yards for a second straight week.

8. Mark Bradley on Vanderbilt’s coach: Franklin’s message to the world: “We’re nobody’s punching bag anymore.” New message: “Would somebody please ask that team in red to stop hitting us so hard?”

SEC Headlines 9/22/2012

1. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive on the timeline for a possible SEC Network: ”We hope to decide what our future is going to look like, certainly by the end of the year, maybe sooner.”

2. Tony Barnhart on LSU-Auburn: “While the world has been talking about the struggles of sophomore quarterback Kiehl Frazier, the reality is that Auburn is going down big time against LSU because it can’t stop the run. ”

3. “For all those wondering where Auburn’s program is headed, Saturday night’s game will be the greatest indicator.”

4. A South Carolina cop gets fired for posting details about of a traffic stop involving Clemson coach Dabo Swinney on a University of South Carolina message board.

5. Dennis Dodd: “The Big Ten is so bad that the conference as a whole, together, as one has beaten four BCS-conference schools three weeks into the season – Syracuse, Boston College, Vanderbilt and California.”

7. Big Blue Madness campers in Lexington get a visit from the head coach.

Sounds like Billy Clyde should have never left College Station. “It’s been more than five years since Gillispie bolted Brazos County for the greener bluegrass of Kentucky, but his name here still draws reverential nods typically reserved for celebrated football coaches Paul “Bear” Bryant and Jackie Sherrill, for the miracle he performed on Texas A&M basketball.”

Campers Set Up For Tickets To UK Hoops Practice; Tents-Ain’t-Easy Edition

This week, campers began setting up to wait in line to get tickets to… Kentucky’s first basketball practice session of the year.  That’s passion, folks.

But apparently it’s easier to get tickets to Big Blue Madness than it is to set up a tent outside UK’s old Memorial Coliseum.

Video: Matthew Mitchell explains the “Dougie”

At UK Women’s Basketball Media Day this afternoon, it just had to happen.

You knew someone had to ask coach Matthew Mitchell about doing the “Dougie” at Big Blue Madness.

Mitchell explained how it came to be that he did the dance, to much acclaim, and YouTube views.
