Texas recently lost out on trying to lure away Auburn offensive line coach Jeff Grimes.
Texas could now lose one of its top offensive line prospects to the same school. Offensive lineman Christian Westerman from Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton High School will announce a “significant recruiting update” at his school on Friday.
There’s speculation that Westerman, who has been committed to Texas since April, will announce that he’s switching his pledge to Auburn.
That would be significant news for Auburn. Westerman is considered the third-best offensive tackle and No. 27 overall prospect in the nation by Rivals.com. He took an official visit to Auburn last month.
Auburn has enjoyed some impressive recruiting momentum in recent weeks.
Athlete Quan Bray, defensive back Robenson Therezie, linebacker Brent Calloway and athlete Kris Frost have all committed to the Tigers this month.
Auburn, which has 18 commitments for the 2011 class, is currently ranked No. 10 in the Rivals team rankings.
