Arkansas Moves to No. 18 in BCS

Arkansas

Editor’s Note: Because of its implications on several postseason bowl selections, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette uses the Bowl Championship Series standings as its official rankings.

Arkansas moved up one spot to No. 18 in the Bowl Championship Series standings, released Sunday night.

The Razorbacks also moved up one spot to No. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25, but fell one spot to No. 19 in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll. Arkansas beat Vanderbilt 49-14 Saturday night in Fayetteville.

Arkansas’ next opponent, South Carolina, is ranked No. 19 in the BCS following a 38-24 win over Tennessee. The Gamecocks currently lead the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division and could clinch the school’s first trip to the SEC Championship Game with a win and Florida loss next weekend.

For the third consecutive week the Razorbacks are one of five SEC schools ranked in the BCS standings, joined by Auburn (2), Alabama (6), LSU (10) and Mississippi State (20).
