On Sunday, Bret Bielema tweeted a link to a story suggesting that offensive lineman who play in spread systems aren’t properly trained for the NFL when they arrive. Arkansas’ coach added: “Things to keep pushing as we move forward here at UA.”
With Auburn’s spread up next on the Hogs’ agenda, it was natural for some to draw a line from Bielema’s anti-spread tweet straight to Gus Malzahn who’s quickly becoming the Batman to his Joker. Or vice versa depending on what color pom-poms you shake.
Instead, Bielema said yesterday that the tweet was “more of a recruiting-based thing” and guaranteed that the message had “nothing to do with Auburn.”
So why the spread tweet on Sunday? On Monday, America’s top prospect at offensive tackle, Jermaine Eluemunor, flipped his commitment from Arkansas to… Texas A&M and the spread offense of Kevin Sumlin.
According to Bielema:
“One of the things that has really been the biggest part of Twitter — that’s been since I’ve been here — is the ability to have kids see things that you instantly can’t provide them. So if a kids is in the middle of a recruiting decision, you can point out the fact of how our style of offense has produced more NFL players and done certain things.”
Apparently Eluemunor was unmoved by Bielema’s tweet.
