When it comes to the SEC this year, offenses ain’t the thing. Not this year, at least.
As Doug Segrest writes in The Birmingham News, the SEC is getting their points in other ways. Five teams have gotten special teams touchdowns. And nine teams have scored points with their defense.
All told, six SEC teams currently rank in the nation’s Top 20 in terms of total defense.
Paul Gattis of The Huntsville Times takes a look around the league and breaks down the biggest winners and losers. He also covers his game of the week (Vandy’s come-from-behind win over Ole Miss) and his dud of the week (Tennessee).
As Gattis points out, the Vols returned eight starters on offense and six starters on defense from last year’s East Division champion… only to lose 30-6 at home to Florida.
