Ole Miss coaches have begun feeding their squad the gameplan for the season-opener next weekend.
“It’s full go for Memphis,” Houston Nutt said. “We’ve got scout team going and the whole bit.”
It’s funny, just reading Nutt’s quotes, he almost always sounds upbeat and excited. In much the same way that Les Miles always sounds like a smart aleck. (You can read his, “you’ll see how we play them when we show up in the stadium” quote in the LSU notes.)
The above notes column also reveals that linebacker Jonathan Cornell is expected back soon after being injured during a non-contact punt drill earlier this week.
Starting defensive tackle Ted Laurent says he’s at about 85% in his bounceback from knee surgery. He hopes to be close to 100% for the Memphis game.
Only problem? His knee can’t bend all the way yet. And I’d think that’s a bit of an issue for a defensive tackle.
How big of an idiot was Ed Orgeron? He wouldn’t let his kicker warm-up prior to the second halves of games. The Rebels’ special teams units appreciate the switch from “Coach O-for-the-SEC” to Nutt.
Speaking of Orgeron, he’s now the defensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints. “It’s a higher level of football. But as far as coaching, I think I’m the happiest I’ve been since I left USC.”
Even happier than when he was driving his Hummer?
