How big of a deal is Jodie Meeks departure from Kentucky?  Pretty big if you listen to Brett Dawson of The Louisville Courier-Journal.  You see, Mr. Dawson believed that UK would be in the running for the national title had Meeks stayed in school.

He might be right, but considering the number of freshmen and newcomers that will be called on in Lexington next year, I would have considered the Cats a Sweet Sixteen team, not a national championship team.

That said, Mr. Dawson writes that it will now be imperative for UK to develop a “perimeter/post balance” in John Calipari’s first year.

John Clay of The Lexington Herald-Leader also believes Meeks’ decision is a blow to Kentucky’s national title hopes.  That’s one of five quick thoughts Mr. Clay shares on the shooter’s departure.

As for Meeks: “I just feel relieved that it’s over.  I gave it a lot of thought. … I played really well in the workouts.  … And I got a lot of feedback.”
