According to a source close to the Carolina program, Joe Person of The State reports that Woody McCorvey’s deal with Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks has fallen through today.
McCorvey had agreed to join the USC staff yesterday, but contract details could not be worked out this morning.
“I acted too hastily in confirming that coach McCorvey would be joining our staff,” said Spurrier in a relase. “After thoroughly reviewing the entire situation and all the issues involved, we felt it was best to go to the bowl game with our current staff and add the two new coaches in January.”
There’s a rumor that McCorvey, the former offensive coordinator at Mississippi State, could be heading to Clemson at this point.
Not sure if any of this has any legs, but keep in mind there was some surprise when defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson was given a large contract extension mid-season. Could Spurrier be cutting deals that the Carolina administration might not want to cash? We’ll what comes of all this.
