Enjoy your Kentucky blurbs for Friday:
Uh-oh. One way UK officials have been trying to fend off the Billy Gillispie lawsuit is by pointing out that he filed it against the UK Athletics Association and not the university.
“It is unfortunate that Mr. Gillispie has sued the UK Athletics Association, a nonprofit supporting foundation that was not his employer.” That’s what a UK release said back in May.
But the tax returns filed by the UK Athletics Association? Well, they listed Gillispie as their highest-paid employee.
Doh!
There’s another catch to this, as well. If UK tries to save millions in their lawsuit with Gillispie by claiming that the coach was NOT actually paid by the UKAA then they’re basically saying that the UKAA sent false tax documents to the IRS. And I’m guessing that’s not what they want to be saying.
In other news, there really wasn’t much news from Darius Miller in the Team USA’s latest FIBA U19 win.
