KENTUCKY FOOTBALL NOTES – 8/4/08

Permalink Tags:

FROM SATURDAY:

Rich Brooks is ready for Kentucky’s program to take another step forward in 2008.  “The anticipation is a little diffent that it was three, four years ago.  It was about survival at that time.  We’ve progressed to a different level.  Our goal is to keep climbing that ladder and keep knocking off teams in the SEC that are used to making us their rug on the way to their good seasons.”

Offensive coordinator and head-coach-in-waiting, Joker Phillips, isn’t rushing his current boss out the door.  “I want Rich to feel comfortable.  I would love to have Rich here as long as he wants.  I’ve already learned from Rich how to build a program.  I would love to learn from Rich how to keep one going.”  Odd situation all the way around.  It’ll get odder if UK takes a step back this year.

FROM SUNDAY:

The Jackson Clarion-Ledger takes a look at Phillips, as well, but they’re coming at it from the minority-hiring angle.  Phillips, of course, will be UK’s first black head football coach.

And here’s another list piece, this one featuring 10 questions facing Kentucky this Fall.

Mike Strange of The Knoxville News Sentinel previews Kentucky’s season and conveys Brooks’ mantra of “we must get better on defense.”

FROM TODAY:

Bob Holt of wholehogsports.com provides his own preview of the Wildcats’ upcoming campaign.
