After a year of working in Lexington without an official contract, just a “Memorandum of Understanding Offer,” it appears that Billy Gillispie and Kentucky are finally closing in on a contract that works for both parties.
“It hasn’t been a big deal to me since day one. I don’t think it’s been that big a deal, but they’re getting me a contract here in the next few days that has the changes that we discussed and I don’t foresee it being any kind of problem.”
Question: If it’s no big deal, then why did it take a full year for the two parties to agree on a contract?
In other Wildcat basketball notes:
1) Just one day after saying he didn’t think it was right to comment on student-athletes academic situations until they’re “finalized or whatever,” UK’s coach is now talking up the fact that DeAndre Liggins and Kevin Galloway will be ready to go for the upcoming season.
“I know there’s a great deal of concern, but I’d expect both of those guys to be playing (next season). I’d expect them to be fine.”
2) Gillispie admits that his point guard situation will be a “big question mark going into the season.”
“We have options. We may be conventional. We many not be conventional. I don’t think we can say anything until we practice.”
