GEORGIA FOOTBALL NEWS – 9/22/08

The No.3 Bulldogs have decided to “blackout” the Alabama game this Saturday. Makes sense considering it’s against a top-10 opponent, at night (7:45), on national television and with ESPN’s “College GameDay” in the house.

The AJC’s Chip Towers thought Georgia might want to hold back on the black jerseys, but the fans and players love it, which is all that matters to coach Mark Richt.

“There’s a lot of interest in it,” said Richt, who received letters from boosters asking what game it would be. “You wouldn’t think it was that big of a deal, but it really is. It was last year. Hopefully it’ll be a big deal this year.”

The AJC’s Tim Tucker has five things to take away from Georgia’s win in the desert:

1) Georgia should have traveled far from home a long time ago.

2) That schedule keeps looking tougher.

3) A.J. Green is a baller.

4) The o-line remains a work in progress.

5) Alabama will pose a different test for the Bulldog defense with its ability to run the football.

The Banner-Herald’s Roger Clarkson writes that Richt didn’t try to run up the score to impress voters because he knows that if the Bulldogs continue to win, the ranking should take care of itself. He goes on to take a look at the good, bad and ugly from the Bulldogs’ victory.

The good? Georgia’s run defense.

The bad? Twelve penalties for 104 yards.

The ugly? The Bulldogs’ lack of second-half touchdowns.
