FLORIDA VS AUBURN IN SEC TITLE GAME (ACCORDING TO MEDIA)

Permalink Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Georgia has been getting most of the attention around the country this off-season.

LSU is the defending national champion.

But according to the media polled at SEC Media Days in Birmingham (Hoover), those two teams won’t make it to Atlanta this December.

Auburn vs Florida are the teams picked to square off for the SEC championship.

For a full rundown of the pre-season All-SEC teams as voted by the media, you can click to this story on secsports.com.

The article also has more on the predictions made by the media.

For our purposes, here are some quick points:

Of the 70 ballots cast, Florida was predicted as SEC overall champion on 36.  Georgia received 18 votes (wow, two-to-one edge for Florida?), Auburn got 13.

Then LSU, Tennessee and Ole Miss (Ole Miss?) received one vote each.

In terms of overall predicted finish by division, here’s how that turned out, with first-place votes in parentheses.

SEC East

1)  Floirda (45)
2)  Georgia (23)
3)  Tennessee (2)
4)  South Carolina
5)  Kentucky
6)  Vanderbilt

SEC West

1)  Auburn (48)
2)  LSU (21)
3)  Alabama
4)  Mississippi State
5)  Ole Miss (1)
6)  Arkansas

Observations:

1)  The media paid close attention to Georgia’s rough schedule

2)  Either the media thinks LSU has too big a hole at quarterback or Les Miles can’t possibly gamble his way to another championship.  One first-place vote?  That’s it?

3)  There don’t seem to be too many questions about Auburn’s new offense and the battle for their starting quarterback job.

4)  There is a serious Ole Miss homer running around in Birmingham.
