Now Mike Strange of The Knoxville News Sentinel admits that he might be reading something into some recent Lane Kiffin comments.
Kiffin played 11 true freshmen last week in UT’s opener against Western Kentucky.
When asked about that fact, the coach made it clear that it’s a good recruiting tool for his school because kids pay attention to which coaches really do play freshmen.
“What’s this great player who went to this school doing? Is he sitting on the bench the whole game not catching one ball? Or is he in the game being the team’s leading receiver?”
Hmmm.
As Mr. Strange points out, that might just be a reference to current Vol receiver Marsalis Teague and current Georgia receiver Marlon Brown.
Brown, a Memphis product, chose the Bulldogs over UT in a tight recruiting battle last winter. He also failed to get into Georgia’s game against Oklahoma State last week.
Brown said that his lack of playing time was “a little surprising, a little disappointing.”
Meanwhile, Teague led the Volunteers in receiving in his first game ever at that position.
So do you think Kiffin was sending a message?
Are you kidding me? Of course he was sending a message.
