Here are today’s headlines from Columbia:

This notes column reveals that USC’s chances of playing in the Chik-fil-A Bowl appear to be shrinking.  Beat Clemson and the Gamecocks will probably land in the Outback Bowl.  Lose big and watch Kentucky win at Tennessee and the Cocks could wind up in the Music City Bowl.

Chris Smelley is excited to be the starter against Clemson.  And true to his word, Steve Spurrier is saying nice things about his quarterback this week.  For now.

Two years ago, Ryan Succop beat Clemson with a field goal.  Could Saturday’s game once again come down to place-kicking?
