Odd story coming out of Columbia this weekend. Five basketball season ticket-holders, all longtime members of the Gamecock Club (ie: booster club), have sued USC over a seat-licensing agreement they say they made with former AD Mike McGee back in 2002.
The fans say that they were told to pay premium fees on their seats for five years, at which point they would then pay only for the cost of the tickets and maintain their usual donation levels. No extra fees would be charged after five years.
Then, last year, the men got their ticket renewal forms and, uh-oh, there was a $1500 per seat fee that would need to be paid for the fans to keep their seats.
A former ticket director at Carolina says that an arrangement in which premiums would cease “would run contrary to everything that was done by Mike McGee.”
