There’s not a lot of news coming out of Auburn today, but here’s what we’ve found for you:
The Tigers’ 17-13 loss to Georgia on Saturday can be traced back to a problem that’s plagued Auburn all year: poor red zone performance. (We would have also accepted: general suckage.) The Tigers were oh-for-two in the red zone against the Dawgs and have converted only 57% of their chances inside their opponents’ twenty yard-line this season.
This notes column reveals that Auburn’s red zone offense is actually the worst among the 119 FBS teams. It also breaks the news to Tiger fans that kicker Wes Byrum and tight end Tommy Trott are probably done for the season (unless the Tigers somehow upset Bama and reach a bowl game).
Finally, Tommy Tuberville is taking some heat for the way he used (or didn’t use) his tailbacks on Saturday. Mario Fannin (left) was clearly the Tigers’ most effective back against Georgai, but he was not on the field on AU’s final drive. And Brad Lester didn’t take an offensive snap the whole game. (Tuberville says that Fannin had to come out because he does not understand the protections as well as Ben Tate, who was in the game, and the Tigers were having to pass more late. Makes sense, but people are just looking for reasons to second-guess Tubs at this point.)
